North American just don't know how to play cricket. Despite having a singular cricket bat, camp did not have stumps or anyone to teach it! Which is where I come in.
My Chinese camper did OCS (other camp sports) for a week where I would always visit him and play a bunch of different sports together. Like Football (American) frisbee, croquet and lacrosse. Most of the other kids were older in his period so he mainly played by himself in the sand (he adored sand) or with staff. So when they played 'Craseball' a mix between cricket and baseball I was in my element and even taught the head of OCS how to bowl! It was very popular and I really enjoyed it too.
Soon after it was community week, where Manitou raised money toward a chosen charity - Autism Speaks foundation. It so happens it coninsided with Australia Day mid week, which also coincided with the Freshkid Fair.. My cabin and I decided to do a sponsored cricket station with the Ashes theme. It was a massive hit. With a ball hockey net as wickets and a three strike rule I taught about a dozen campers how to bowl, field and bat cricket style! It was completely new to them and they loved it! Even a load of the Australian and British counsellors joined in. All in all, we raised over $100 for a dollar a run basis. Good job F4!
- From then on the boys bugged me to play more cricket, spreading the love.
Funny story to add on. Whilst walking home to my friends house in north York, Toronto. I came across a couple Indian blokes playing cricket on the street.. so I asked to join in! We ended up playing half a dozen overs together and chatting about camp, and my street cricket in Cape Town. Love it.
Join @boywriteshome as he ticks off another dream job from the bucket list : summer camp counsellor! I have no idea if I will be able to keep a blog updated online, camp is all about disconnecting from technology and embracing the outdoors. So I'll definitely take notes on paper and then spill all my stories on the blog when I can. Best summer ever, here I come.

Camp Is Over - Photo Frenzy!
Thats it! Camp has finished, and it has been finished for about a week now, just over. It ended with a grande finale for sure! World Games was intense and amazingly fun. The things we achieved as a team - with staff and campers all coming together for some amazing scenes was fantastic. Please enjoy a photo dump from the many talented photographers around camp.

Right now I'm enjoying sofa surfing between beautiful houses in north Toronto thanks to my gratuitous camp friends, and enjoying some of the sights. We have been up the CN tower, boasted to Toronto Island and enjoyed a festival in China town as well as a wander through Kensington market. With more fun to come before I leave to Montreal on September 3rd, I'll also try to post a couple stories every now and again. Reminiscing about this past summer. Love to all my family xxx hopefully you'll hear from me soon!
